An Online Speaker Series with program leaders at Naramata Centre

Join host Tim Scorer and author Vickie MacArthur for a contemplative evening and conversation based on Vickie’s new book A Lotus on Fire: How a Buddhist Monk Ignited My Heart. This spiritual memoir was sparked by a soul-searching glance from Vietnamese Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh, and illuminates the mystical path of awakening to the Love beyond the boundaries of body and mind, race and religion.

Tim is a long time mentor for Pacific Jubilee’s Soul Guiding program, and Vickie was blessed to be mentored by Tim during the 2018-2020 training. Tim has kindly written the Foreword for A Lotus on Fire and writes “This spiritual memoir will be a gift for all those who in this time of spiritual fluidity, seek encouragement and inspiration in addressing the kind of spiritual issues that Vickie brings before us.

Please join Tim and Vickie as they engage in a contemplative conversation around some of the themes of Vickie’s book:

  • cultivating inter-spiritual communities in divisive times
  • creating bridges of understanding and shared practice between spiritual traditions
  • healing the wounds of organized religion

This Month our guest speaker is: Vickie MacArthur

Vickie describes herself as “a lifetime pilgrim on the spiritual path of everyday life.” As a minister, spiritual director, yoga and meditation teacher, she walks an inter-spiritual path that honors the depth of her Christian, Buddhist, and yogic traditions. Vickie’s teaching and writing integrates embodied awareness, breath, and spirituality to help bring a sense of healing and wholeness to all aspects of life. In her classes and retreats, Vickie teaches the “art of slowing down and listening deeply” to ourselves, to each other, to our planet, and to the great Mystery that holds us all. She offers smaller personalized yoga and meditation classes to help manage stress and anxiety, as well as heal from chronic pain and other health challenges. Having recently graduated from Pacific Jubilee’s Soul Guiding training (2020), she offers spiritual companioning for those who want to explore the deeper questions and complexities of life, while listening for the “whispers” of Spirit.

Host: Tim Scorer

At the heart of Tim’s practice is spiritual accompaniment: with individuals, with spiritual companions and elders, with groups and faith communities, in contemplative retreats, and now with lovers of poetry. His grounding is through active engagement with five grandchildren, gardening on a hillside on Bowen Island, participation in the life of a faith community, and deepening into the loving 56-year partnership he enjoys with Donna.

We look forward to having you Join us!
