There are times in life when we find ourselves in the wilderness. Perhaps we have been carried there by grief or transition or promise, and willingly or not, and we enter into a journey of transformation. It may feel daunting and yet we suspect there might be life-giving wisdom waiting to unfold itself to us – if we are courageous enough to take the first steps.

Do we dare to step into the wilderness? How do we begin?

Join us for this special gathering as we sit and talk with Jan Richardson and hear her thoughts about traveling through wilderness times and the wisdom she has uncovered in that process. A prolific writer and artist, Jan will share some of her work with us and reveal how it has been informed by her own journey. This will be a time to listen, reflect and ask questions. Whether you are a curious explorer, shy seeker or bold knower: all are welcome.

Schedule for our time together:

  • Welcome gathering
  • Conversation with Jan Richardson hosted by Keri Wehlander
    • this time will include sharing a selection of Jan’s art and writing
  • Break
  • Participant Q&A

Beloved Is Where We Begin

If you would enter
into the wilderness,
do not begin
without a blessing.

Do not leave
without hearing
who you are:
Beloved,
named by the One
who has traveled this path
before you.

Do not go
without letting it echo
in your ears,
and if you find
it is hard
to let it into your heart,
do not despair.
That is what
this journey is for.

I cannot promise
this blessing will free you
from danger,
from fear,
from hunger
or thirst,
from the scorching
of sun
or the fall
of the night.

But I can tell you
that on this path
there will be help.

I can tell you
that on this way
there will be rest.

I can tell you
that you will know
the strange graces
that come to our aid
only on a road
such as this,
that fly to meet us
bearing comfort
and strength,
that come alongside us
for no other cause
than to lean themselves
toward our ear
and with their
curious insistence
whisper our name:

Beloved.
Beloved.
Beloved.
