Anita Perlau

Anita learned early on in her life that music was a wonderful medium to express oneself and she has found abundant joy in making music with others! She has spent the last 30 years in the field of music education as an elementary school music specialist, choral conductor, and university lecturer. Currently, Anita is the program director of Calgary Children’s Choir “Music Makers” for youngsters age 3-6 and creator of Joyful Kids Music, aspiring to exceptional early childhood music education for children and their parents.

In addition to teaching the very young, Anita enjoys working with adults. She conducts two non-auditioned adult community choirs in Calgary. Since 2016, Anita has been a sessional instructor at the University of Alberta where she teaches undergraduate and graduate music education courses. Anita has advanced certificates in both the Kodály and Orff philosophies, a Master of Education (music education) and studied at the Kodály Institute in Kesckemet, Hungary.

When Anita isn’t singing, she enjoys trips to the mountains to x-country ski or cycle. She is Mom to two awesome young adults, faithful furry friend Sam and wife to THE most supportive husband.
Anita is thrilled to be back at Naramata Centre leading the children’s choir program!
